To me, that is the bare minimum, of what a wait staff's job requires, and if that's all you do, then your tip won't be very high. I understand that they have other tables, so they can't wait on me and me alone, but make me feel more than welcomed!


I used to frequent a sit down chain restaurant about 3 times a week (it was right by my work, and I'd stop in there for dinner) and I'd sit at the bar, and the bartender there was awesome. When he wasn't busy, he'd go around and just talk to everyone sitting at the bar. The long conversations about anything and everything we would have were great. Sometimes, if he saw me come in, he would have my beer of choice already there for me by the time I sat down. I loved that he'd remember what beer I drank. That's service!! I always tipped him very well.

If you want tips so bad, go beyond what your job entails.
