What they should be allowed to do, however, is make money off of endorsements and the like. They should ABSOLUTELY have control over, and be compensated for, their likeness. NCAA video games, marketing campaigns, all of that.


Yeah I agree with that. Top competition videogamers can get big money endorsements so college athletes should be able to as well!

It's pretty crazy that they don't have control over how their image is used. Based on the rules now, the NCAA could, say, have sold "Tim Tebow's Swastika Armbands" and there really isn't much he could have done about it. (Incredibly insane hypothetical used merely to demonstrate the amount of power the NCAA has over your name while you play for them. Yes, it would result in the biggest PR nightmare of all time, but they could have done it.)

Interesting fact about the NCAA, on the list of banned substances, alongside steroids, nicotine, marijuana, caffeine?
