How is it any different from deciding what coaches should be paid what?

A little bit more logistical work is going to have to be put into deciding the system of paying hundreds of recruits fairly without annihilating any sense of parity between schools than letting teams throw however much money they want at a coaching staff.

If you're going to allow schools to decide how much money they can pay each player, there has to be a salary cap otherwise the skew towards a few top schools will get even worse than now. Or do we just pay starting QBs a specific wage? Who decides which position gets what? What about two position players? What about bench players that never even rotate into games? If there is a salary cap does that mean bottom of the roster walk ons who would have at least been on the team before now get cut?
