If anything, the biggest problem with the Prequel Trilogy over the Original Trilogy is that the actors didn't have as much ground to stand on when it came to challenging Lucas, due to the more total control he had over the show - well, of the OT lucas only directed ANH. ESB was directed by irvin kershner and RotJ was directed by richard marquand (though lucas also did some uncredited second unit directing on that movie). so the actors didn't actually have to deal with lucas for most of the trilogy. not to mention I believe Lucas divorced, and his wife was a big reason for the Original Trilogy's quality in the first place. there's also rumors that ANH was originally a terribly paced mess that was "saved in editing" (i.e. the editors cut out a lot of unnecessary stuff). that's never been 100% confirmed, though. --- Geothermal terpsichorean ejectamenta ...
