I have the DS game but I haven't tried it yet. I'm kind of nervous to after reading reviews.
It's not as good as the previous games, and recycles too much of what was good instead of creating new interesting things, as in there isn't much new to discover, the story itself is boring and it feels like you're not really heading anywhere most of the time.

It does. But the since the game's sales were sub par, like the game itself, Nintendo had the series canned.
I'm not sure Camelot has the capabilities to make a good JRPG in 2017 too be honest, if they ever revived Golden Sun they'd need someone else to develop it. Camelot at best should provide information on where they intended the story to go.
I wish they would make one just to put a close to the storyline. then can it. ---
