What is the law on killing someone in the attempted act of killing a pet?

I never really thought about it, but I would hope that the right to defense would extent to pets and livestock. I hope you're not legally obligated watch your pets die for lack of the ability to use lethal force to preserve them. If someone is about to kill your animal right in front of you, it stands to reason that they intend to do the same to you as well.

Well if the pet happens to be a police dog, any acts of violence against it are treated exactly the same as if it was committed against a uniformed human police officer. This is because police dogs are technically officers, so all the laws that protect officers are in full effect.

Don't know how it is with personal pets, but I imagine you can hit them with attempted murder if they were coming at you.

cops are hypocrites towards dogs. they treat police dogs as equal to human officers. but they give no rights at all to pet dogs.
