A lot of users don't give a damn about those beliefs but force themselves into the closet, while others actually love the fact that the site is like that. People start rebelling when it turns out that the glorious leader has been shitting on all that. Those that were in the closet now realize that they shouldn't have done that to themselves in the first place, since dear leader is even worse.
