| Romulox28 10/24/17 3:40:28 PM #33: | only a white man would come up with a shape as stupid as a parallelogram. a parallelogram is a shape that is borne out of concepts of privilege and unequal power structures. a PoC (Person of Color) mathematician would historically have create da shape that is practical and necessary due to their diminished social stance in the world, such as a rectangle or triangle - powerful, sturdy shapes. Their shapes are created not out of curiosity but out of necessity, and unfortunately the reality is that we cannot achieve significant progress by focusing just on necessity. A white (or white-presenting) mathematician, on the other hand, is able to create a shape such as a parallelogram, a shape with no real-world application and no foundation in reality. No building will ever be a parallelogram, no city designed in those dimensions. It is a shape entire constructed to take advantage of decades of oppression and prejudice.
