not my mindset though I liked the game back and surely could enjoy it today, but the flaws would be much more noticeable to me nowdays.

If you're going to have a discussion of how great a game is, it is fair to put it in context of its time. Obviously the progression of time and technology will enable games to do more. That is obvious to anyone who chooses to think about such questions rather than avoid them.
