VI still did well to take his advantages where he had them. There were several situations where he was predicted swirl would switch. And some people would second guess themselves and use either a move that is SE against the current pokemon, or a move that they feel will be neutral or SE against whatever is being switched in. But several times VI took the opportunity to get a rock polish out or something alone those lines and thus getting even more mileage out of his favorable game state.
So yeah, while VI was in the driver's seat to begin with as a result of RNG, it was still good play that allowed him to accelerate towards a victory as smoothly as he did. ---
