You can find quotes from Socrates talking about how the world was going to shit back in Ancient Greece and that books were making kids lazy anti-social ingrates with no social skills or work ethic. Everyone always thinks the world is doing badly and getting permanently worse than the recent past. Culture isn't an inexorable march forward but especially for the past 200ish years things have steadily been getting better even accounting for some nasty blips.

I want to have at least two kids and I know they'll be born into a world where they're almost guaranteed to avoid violent death and nearly all physical hardship. Not sure what the job market or civil society will look like but those are always changing a lot.
