"You may as well get me a lawyer" is 100% asking for a lawyer, and he didn't reaffirm because any reasonable person would assume that they'd been clear. So if he thought he was legitimately requesting a lawyer, why did he keep talking as if he hadn't? By the letter of the law, "If you think I did it, why don't you get me a lawyer?" is not a request for a lawyer. And the suspect himself seemed to know it because he kept talking. Like, I can understand not liking a potential precedent, granted nothing illegal actually happened...
