In the unpatched game, Sonic and non-hedgehog avatars couldn't pick rings back up after being hit, you just lost your rings and they were gone and that's it. Only hedgehog avatars could get them back. Now everyone can get them back and the Rings just stick around longer for hedgehog avatars. It still wasn't a hard game but it could get frustrating, especially in boss battles. --- SuperNiceDog didn't have to reconcile his name...
