Just played though it after avoiding most prerelease stuff and reviews; pretty bad overall.

Here's my quick thoughts. (Didn't read through the topic so I'm sure I'm going to repeat a lot of criticisms.)

Cons
-Why is 2D sonic even in this, wasn't the point of Mania so Sonic Team can focus on 3d? And holy shit does Sonic Team need some focus. Or to fire everyone except for the art team.
-Jesus these levels are all so short, especially after playing through Mania. I can't think of a single level that lasted more than 5 minutes, most clocking in at 1-2 and a half. Feels kind of like a mobile game in that way, especially with the 'daily mission' stuff thrown in.
-The shortness of levels is made worse by the fact that between every one you have to press A about 50 times to get through the dialog and the gabillion items you unlock after every level.
-Add on top of the shortness the garbage tier level design makes you wonder 'why am I playing this?'
-JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THIS GAME HAS THE WORST WALL JUMPING MECHANICS I HAVE EVER PLAYED. I feel like you have a 50/50 chance of a wall jump starting or you just falling to your death. And then they add a death laser following you? Nothing makes shitty unreliable mechanics more fun than time limits!
-Horrible boss fights. I don't think I really had fun with a single boss in this game. If you love mashing A when you see a green circle maybe you'll like them.
-The momentum in 2D and 3D feels like garbage. How do you fuck them both up?
-WHY THE FUCK ARE SO MANY ENEMIES GRAY/EGGSHELL COLORED? Here is an idea Sonic Team: make the things that can harm you stand out instead of blend in, you stupid motherfuckers.
-Runs like hot garbage on PC. Bad frame rates, had a few crashes, and have to run it through Steam Big Picture mode to not have the audio all choppy for the (totally amazing and 100% worth watching*) cutscenes.
-If a main gimmick of you game is to play dress up, allow people to save outfits for fucks sake.
-The fucking null zone. You get half a point for making a self aware joke about how useless that was.
-Sections where youhave to spindash or you won't go fast enough and something will kill you, but you have no way of knowing that you need to spindash so FU, back to the checkpoint.
-Overall it feels like they decided cheap deaths were A-OK because of the lack of a life system. No, still annoying.
-The switching grinding rails or lanes in the LB/RB segments feels so incredibly unresponsive
-Why do the birds have teeth?

Pros-ish
-It's pretty.
-The presentation/UI is decent.
-Character creation isn't horrible, but with no actual fun levels to play your characters on it's pretty much useless.
-A few songs were ok
-The writing got a few chuckles. Mostly not at the intended parts, but that's alright (Knuckles' "That's why they call it war" as serious as possible is probably the best Sonic line ever.)
