Except poverty is literally the reason they're shitty. Calling Mississippi and Alabama -- historically two of the poorest states in the nation (which currently rank 50 and 47 respectively) shitty -- and then saying, "Oh, nobody said poverty!" isn't just intellectually disingenuous, it's intellectually fraudulent. And you're tying this "shittiness" -- ie, poverty -- to morality.
Morality is obviously relating to racism and other hateful rhetoric made using religion as a defense.
