People are just curious about different, natives are going to be curious about people who aren't, it's not malicious.

"natives"

Lots of brown people, and hispanics can come from many places, maybe they were really interested in what country your ancestors came from.

Then don't ask "Where are you from?" because from the gate it implies that individual isn't a "native", lol. The curiosity is fair, but how you communicate those ideas can come off either genuine or tone-deaf.

I know we're not, like super good friends or anything, but you've spent more time in academia than I. Have you experienced something like this before? I'm not wrong to be pissed after the 10th time I get asked, right?

I mean, whenever someone asks me where I'm from I say Florida. No one has ever followed up with, "no...where are you from?" or something like that. It's happened to colleagues of mine over the years, particularly if they do have international backgrounds--usually either they are first-generation born Americans or emigrated with their families at a young age.
