I'll probably see Star Wars on opening weekend, but man, I don't think I feel the slightest bit of excitement about it. I was really hyped when TFA was coming out, but I'm experiencing series fatigue at this point and it's only going to get worse until the new trilogy finishes. Then you just know 10-20 years after that they'll probably come out with some entirely new set of movies and that'll continue until the end of time. It just feels too much like this big cash cow that exists to sell toys and make studio execs even richer.

Not that I'm saying that it's a new thing that it's a big moneymaker, but at least the original trilogy was some guy's passion project. It was a very cool thing for its moment in time (and it still holds up), but some of the things that made it great, like ambitious setpieces and special effects, are commonplace in movies now. Yeah, they can add new characters and stories, but it seems like they're recycling a lot of the same themes and character tropes.
