Just re-watched this on hulu last night. Hadn't seen it in over a decade. Here are my mental notes:
-it's a 90 minute movie about a basketball playing dog, and the first time the dog puts a basketball through a hoop is 45 minutes in
-the dog plays in exactly one basketball game. He checks in with 6 minutes left.
-the setup for the dog actually playing in an official game is this: half the team suddenly gets chicken pox, then a guy fouls out, so they only have 4 players
-before said game starts, the boy goes to the drunk clown's house to kidnap the dog in order to set it free. He gets the dog and takes him across a lake or something, and turns him loose in a field. The next time we see the dog, he randomly bursts into the gymnasium at the exact moment the player is fouling out, and the original owner is, inexplicably, chasing after him. How the hell did the owner track down the dog?
-when the dog shoots free throws, it's 78-82 with 20 seconds left. He makes them both. 80-82 with 20 seconds left. Then the ball moves down the court, and the next time we see the scoreboard it's like 61-65 with 4 minutes left or something. Then it goes back to normal. Just a silly mistake I noticed.
-Nobody considers the thought of the dog actually playing until the moment when he bursts onto the scene. Yet magically they already have four miniature basketball shoes that fit a dog ready to go on the bench?
I'm not trying to do a serious critique of the movie here. Just watched it when I was drunk and felt like reflecting on it. It's weird watching things like that and observing the differences between your perspective as a child compared to an adult. I actually thought the development of the family was done well, with the kid dealing with his father dying and the mother working two jobs doing the best she could.
As far as errors as this sort. Friday Night Lights was on the other day. The movie. When Boobies gets injured and the team with Mike Wimchem or whatever is driving down the field there is like 50 seconds left. They complete what I think it 4 or 5 passes going down the field. Except. Every single pass they complete seems to be caught around the opponents 20 yard line over and over. So they drove down the field at the end of the game in the time left by throwing the spot down field to the same spot over and over. It was weird to me. ---
