Flinthook is a game I havent played nearly as much as I want to, but it nails what its doing so well that I feel comfortable putting it on my list. Its a roguelike with persistent gold and upgrades, something extremely common, but this game is on another level. You control your dude in a 2D space, but your primary method of traversal is a grappling hook that feels as good as any grappling hook in any game. You fight through ships generated through pre-built parts trying to get to the boss to upgrade yourself further and it just plays so well. The graphics are also great, and the music is phenomenal. Its one that I feel is overlooked in the wake of early access hit Dead Cells, but its one that shouldnt be.

PUBG is kind of a bad game. It looks awful, the graphics are horrendous, the game is buggy as hell, the actual amount of content is laughably low. The gunplay is bad -- really bad. Like astoundingly bad. Its bad in a way that you can still get very good at it, but even then, people who claim its good are just wrong. But something about this game and the zeitgeist around it was too good to pass up. The premise isnt unique, but its fully realized, and this game gets credit for that. It feels incredible to get a kill and a chicken dinner in the game. But for me, once I got that dinner, I didnt need to go back that much. For some people, going back was a must. I will play some more of it, for sure. I have to recognize how great it felt to be playing that game along with what seems like everyone else on the planet for a few months.
