Another episode for Logan, another episode where it feels like a man's show with a conveniently female protagonist. Here, domestic abuse of a girl - Logan's sister - is used as an opportunity for the men to appear awesome as they protect her. We're meant to revel in Aaron's beatdown of the colossal douchebag boyfriend - the comic music and the gleefully manic camera clearly emphasize this. It's redemption for Aaron! It's a chance for Logan to feel closer to his father!

It's not like I'm above being taken by it a bit - it is satisfying (and rather amusing) to watch Aaron kick the boyfriend's ass, and to have that feeling of realization before the kid about what's coming to him. (He offers a bit of meat at the pointed end of a very long, very sharp steak-knife. The kid says it's perfect, and Aaron responds, 'not so much.') I'm not against some cathartic violence in my TV shows, but the fact we have to introduce a throwaway domestic abuser just to give Aaron a chance to redeem himself is bad. I guess violence is an aphrodisiac, though, since it spurs Logan and Veronica's deciding to take it further.

I thought about responding to this earlier but I didn't want to give much away... but I never got the impression that this was "redemption" for Aaron.

Like it was good he was standing up for his daughter, and it was an incredibly well done scene, but I thought Aaron came away from that scene looking like a very terrifying man, and he was already pretty intimidating.
