they took these out of my self checkouts, and its both good and bad:

good: machines much easier to use. doesnt annoy customers to bag their stuff, doesnt go into a tizzy because an item was moved slightly on the scale.

bad: makes it way, way easier to steal. I can come up and ask to open tote containers or coolers or w/e to see if they're empty whereas before it would know the weight and any extra would throw it off. but if my back is turned for a second somebody can easily throw two items in a bag while paying for one. Also, people scan items twice now way more frequently. this isnt that big of an issue, but I always predicted this would happen without the bag/weigh item step, because making you do something means you dont hold the item next to the scanner longer. Despite somebody on here saying "why would somebody scan their item twice?!?!?" once when i brought that up in the past

so yeah, im overall glad its gone as its less hassle on my end, but it does make it much, much easier to steal.
