I remembered this from my childhood as an incredibly terrible game, so I figured I'd give it another shot. It lives up to my expectations. First, there's no hitstun on enemies. They will run at you and sit directly on top of you where you can't hit them and rapidly drain your HP. The only way to fight them is to run away and hit them with a ki attack. However, hit detection for all your attacks is somewhere between unreliable and completely random, and running away usually relies on the flight mechanic, which is very limited and can only be restored with powerups. Flight also allows you to bypass certain parts of the environment but it's not totally clear which. You can go up some walls, over water, and across some gaps. The stat balance is also way out of whack. I remember giving up and cheating and taking ages to kill bosses while standing still and hitting them, but if you grind enough it becomes pretty easy. This involves a lot of death, though, and since you can save anywhere and respawning refills your HP, there's little incentive not to die. It's unintentionally hilarious to see Goku's angel CG with heart-lifting music every time he keels over due to wolves or something. Bosses are decidedly unimpressive since they all follow the same exact formula as regular enemies, or at least the enemies who can shoot ki blasts at you. Since they only go after you when you're in their line of sight, these fights are unusually relaxed as you stroll around refilling your flight and healing herbs. The only redeeming elements are its connections to Dragon Ball Z, but the best it has to offer in this regard are blurry stills from the anime. Other events, if shown at all, are extremely tame in terms of visuals. Goku at least goes Super Saiyan at the end but it doesn't seem to do much, and then it's over.
