Used games are the only reason they're still alive. That's a pretty substantial reason, though. All money made through used is 100% theirs. There is no publisher involvement with used game sales. And if that continually shrinks as time goes on (which is likely is thanks to digital adoption increasing every year along with Games as a Service increasing in popularity) they don't have anything left to fall back on. It's a single revenue stream, sure, but it's a strong one.
