When you are going down hill, even in the summer, you have HUGE changes in weight and friction load on your brakes. Obviously, things happen out of your control all the time while driving, but you should try to plan ahead in a way that you don't have to. Uneven brake pressure or pad/rotor wear, which is a minor annoyance on level/dry road, becomes magnified and has an exponentially worse effect on the physics of your car when going downhill or in low traction conditions.
