To be fair most games those days did that. But youre right that its awful.

pretty sure most games didn't have any sort of saving functionality at all. And basically all the ones I can think of that did, didn't have this issue, either through providing an easy way to restore to full health (fairy fountains in zelda) or just starting you with full (megaman)
