I would argue that it is the best Star Wars film.

Remove the whole going off to some weird planet and all that crap from it. Instead, have Finn, Poe, and Rose quietly start the seeds of a revolution on the capital ship. The same basic story telling effects take place, the same character growth happens as they learn that heroism is not dying for the cause always, but sometimes it is the courage to take losses and escape to fight another day.

Even if you want to argue that it was needed to give us that awesome finale of the kids at the Casino Town talking about the legend of Luke Skywalker, just show a montage of the Resistance Members talking to others around the galaxy about what Luke did, and end with the same basic shot.

I really felt like the Finn subplot was the only objectively poor part of the film.

Yeah, we can nitpick on things (why not just send every ship to warp into the enemy fleet like we saw them do with the capital ship, etc. etc), but the other Star Wars films are not without their own kinda silly/stupid moments too.
