Xenophobia has largely been encouraged post-WWI as a means of political control over the uneducated peasantry. Fascists did it, Communists did it, Capitalists do it!

The general population seems to be very impressionable, in the past, and in the present! After all, why should the German people have felt "xenophobic" towards the Jewish people? They were Jews that had lived their for centuries, if not a millennium. This too was the same with Jewish Communists tried in show trials in Eastern Bloc states of the USSR in the 1950's - the Jews were painted as cosmopolitan wanderers devoid of a Fatherland, although many had lived in their respective countries, states, for their recent histories.

This is a complicated topic, yet we're arguing like children!!!
