Not really. Class is a social construct (it's not based purely on economic status: there's a "right" accent and a "wrong" accent, etc) -- but who's going to deny that class privilege/prejudice exists? Race is a concept that's fuzzy at the edges, and who gets put in which pigeonhole can be arbitrary, but people still make judgements based on it.


If class is a social construct, and communism is a classless society, then why are social marxists fighting for their class?


Because class isn't yet obsolete. It's a reality in the society in which we live. A classless society -- the goal -- doesn't yet exist. And there's no need for the "if". If you think class isn't a social construct, a system for sorting people that defines them by relationships and rules, then what the hell do you think it is?
