He looked very nervous and uncomfortable in the Tana match and there were a lot of things going against that match as far as crowd reaction, too. And even with all that, it was very well worked, it just wasn't the typical match anyone expected or hoped for out of a WK IC Title match that involved Tanahashi. Against Omega, he seemed far more comfortable with the new gimmick and everything. That goes a long way in a promotion like New Japan. Now, if his first defense is mediocre and it's not because it's against Hangman Page or someone similarly boring, then Kenny obviously starts deserving more credit. So I guess the overall answer would be that it's hard to really know for sure yet.
