Because I've been critical of our overly harsh DUI laws as well.

I mean, statistics suggest that lessening the legal limit from .12 to .10 and then again to .08 might not have had a positive effect on making the roads safer overall.
However, it HAS resulted in a SHITLOAD of people losing their jobs and paying upwards of $10,000 in fines and fees.
So let's say every year thousands people get a DUI and have to pay lots of money and some of them lose their jobs. As a result, no lives are saved. If that's the case, why is it a good thing that we are giving out these DUIs?
Remember, cops are a finite resource. If they are out looking for people who driving @ .08, then they aren't out looking for other offenses. You have to consider all these things.
