It isn't because the OS itself is bad; it's because they need to run apps that don't have Mac versions. That's a software availability issue, not a bad OS issue. The one thing I'll give Apple is that having a unix based OS that is meant to be installed on specific hardware, it can mean having fewer issues than installing ubuntu or something on another laptop, one that is not specifically optimized for the OS. Like I had some issues with my network adapter and built-in speakers using ubuntu on my HP laptop, issues that required manual tinkering under the hood of the OS.
