How many of the shooters are ultra conservative? They really need to profile these types of people.

It amuses me how profiling is so universally bad and to be reviled by certain people, right up until it's people of a certain political ideology perceived as all being white by their opponents being profiled, at which point it becomes a great idea to them...

I mean profiling as the police do. It would be easy to enstate a new rule and expire everyone's gun permits.

I am not understanding the flaw in boiling down extremely violent behavior to mental illness and some cultural issues.

Sure, but other countries have people with mental illness.
That's the problem. Canada has quite a few guns and they don't have nearly as many shootings as we do.
Obviously there's something here, and you bring up cultural issues but we need to address what those are and how we can prevent gun crime.

As it stands right now, we're leading the western world in this and every time we have another massacre, nothing happens.

I think what is noteworthy is that the U.S. has a higher prevalence than any other developed nation (quick source: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/05/030507080958.htm) and treat fewer people. It's a double whammy.

We are a severely crippled nation in terms of mental health and we refuse to treat it properly. You combine that with some poor cultural values and issues and it seems like a formula to produce such violence like this.

I think the cultural issues go hand in hand with the mental issues. For instance, we see that it's usually these young kids coming from very similar environments and have very similar belief sets. Little feeling of power, depression, rejection without coping techniques, etc.

This may be going out on a limb, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a kid like the one yesterday ramming his mom's minivan through the courtyard at school to mow people down if we all had very limited access to firearms. This kid and the others were going to commit an act of violence with or without a firearm.

The conservative way in America is to never admit there is such a thing as mental illness unless it turns out to be a convenient excuse, which is a deep flaw in their thinking. "Gun violence? Man we just have all these crazy people. Homeless people, crazy politicians, working people with mental disorders, birth defects, cults? There is no such thing as mental sickness." Other countries that admit that this problem is just part if humanity do much better naturally because they can treat their I'll and make them functioning parts of society. Not America though, we want to keep out elite upper crust and force the rest into a third world way of life.
