Uhh, you guys, Trump has never said he wants to ban guns in the first place. More than that, the NRA publicly supported him during the election. That said, he raises a point. It's pretty obvious why the Dems did nothing during Obama. If they waggle a finger at guns, they get the support of anti-gun people. But if they ban guns, they lose the support of a LOT of people.
