FL needs to have background checks as it sounds like they do NOT have them, andcthe person who bought the gun sounds like an under age minor. They should not have been legally allowed to sell or even willing to sell a rifle or gun of any sort to a high schooler.

FL needs some serious changes for gun buying, there is a reason they have you fill out forms and get checked before they will sell you anything in many states for a good reason.

I love guns but background checks, and paper work are something I agree with as no one with mental issues, a criminal background, or a juvie record of violence should ever have a gun.

You are required to undergo a background check buying through ANY licensed dealer. Its a federal law. Cruz bought it at 19, which is above the legal age to purchase long guns. The fact that he was still in school was irrelevant.

Health records are sealed by HIPAA and flagging mental health issues is actually a violation of that law, unless the buyer consents to releasing that information.

mental health isn't a good qualifier anyways. look at all the gangbangers and terrorists shooting each other. do they all have mental illnesses?
