Part of why FF7 is so great is that it's unconventional. Cloud isn't a magical child of destiny he was just a random mook , Aeris is. And she gets gibbed at the end of Disc 1. Barrett is a failed terrorist. Tifa is a depressive and an enabler. Red XIII is a troubled teenager. Cid is a bitter old drunk who is incredibly abusive to the only person in the world who cares about him. Vincent blames himself for everything. Yuffie's just there to steal the party's materia and presumably re-ignite the Wutai-Shinra war.
