The switch from hand drawn animation to computer animation

Rating: 49/100

The upside of computer animation is the opportunity to create more versatility in animation style. You could still use computer animation to create 2D films in the Disney Renaissance style if you wanted to, after all. However, large studios continue to decrease the amount of effort in the detail of their films. It's a frightening prospect when video games reach a wildly more aesthetically pleasing and detailed level of design on a fraction of the budget for these huge films. Disney's big offense is the "sameness" of its more recent releases. Illumination's big offense is the lack of detail and the dumbing down of its animation with lazier design choices (fewer objects in rooms, less attention to character design). Overall it's a bad result from a concept that should have been good.
