I'll try and explain this slowly.

Homicide means:

The killing of one person by another.

Homicide rate means:

The amount/frequency of one person killing another.

Violence means:

Using or involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something.

Violent crime means:

Any crime that involves using or involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something.

Homicide rate is part of violent crime. But it's one facet of violent crime. Things such as assault, rape, mugging, extreme stalking, vandalism etc do not count as homicide.

Places like Detroit which are a hotspot for gun murder knock up America's homicide rate to an unrepresenative number for the nation as a whole.

But things like rape, assault, mugging etc. Remain very low.

As a result:

The Crime Rate in America is really very low despite a large population and gets lower every year (almost) consistently.

You're conflating America's gang problem and mass shooting problem with ALL violent crime.

That's something no one above the age of 7 should do. And I don't know any simplier way to explain that.

^ Hey now that's completely unfair.
