The Dark Knight

Rating: 100/100

One of my top five films of all time, The Dark Knight touches on civic philosophy in a quiet, understated way. Anchored by great performances throughout, I always feel the need to point out that it's the little things that make this movie work so well. Bill Fitchner wielding a shotgun and railing against the new breed of criminal at the top of the film. Tiny Lister's imposing presence on the prison ship. The word "laughter" being turned into "slaughter" with a single letter. The Bruce Wayne car accident being punctuated by a dry one-liner. So much of this film relies on larger exploration of broad concepts, but it's the attention to detail that let's the grander philosophy stand on a foundation of excellently crafted storytelling.
