More bad games and no regulation means that smaller good games get crowded out. It means fewer good games in the long run, because it's easier to make cheap, low quality games. They talk about this on Giant Bomb a lot.

what they talk about is that the release slate on Steam makes their jobs, which is to play games for a living, more difficult, because trying to decipher what's a real game and what's an asset flip takes away one of their limited resources, time. this is an entirely different argument. they have not really talked about the different ways indie devs take to get noticed, what business deals they forge with other indie publishers to stand out, or the comparative advantages of an indie dev with a large profile making a brand new game vs. making a sequel to an already successful game. this is not something most people will encounter. if you see an interesting game, all you need to do is search the name on YouTube or Google and you'll find endless discussion and videos on whether it's worth your time.

I don't buy into the 'too many games' argument. It's not something that we've seen in other mediums. Do some good voices get crowded out? Absolutely. That's just creative life. Does creativity reach some state of entropy wherein people stop having good ideas and stop making art? No. We're approaching the second decade where music is essentially free, and yet there are even more people making music, and making money in music, than ever before, largely thanks to democratized tools and marketing techniques.
