So I can safely say that this is the strongest Persona cast of the four games I've played.

Ryuji is easily the best of "first male party member." He's actually pretty endearing because there's a solid sense of wanting justice for those around him. He's obviously loud and obnoxious but it's done in a way where it's easy to support and understand his feelings.

Ann is a solid female character who obviously falls a little too hard on the stereotypes but never veering full "ditzy female character" like some jRPGs would go. She, too, seems to have solid feelings, emotions, and motivations during the events of the game. Nothing about her is terribly remarkable (and her battle animation is stupid awful) but at the same time I never feel annoyed with her.

Morgana is... kinda annoying. I don't like how she treats herself so importantly but then again that's pretty much standard for "mascot" character in various jRPGs. The mystery behind her is supposed to be important but I can't help but not care, to be honest. And the fact that she's a cat in the real world makes me think there really is nothing to her and that she's not really a human. Maybe she's just another shadow? I dunno, I took her out of the party as soon as I could, I'm not a fan of the design either.

Man, Yusuke made such a bad first impression I thought I was gonna hate him but his kinda sheltered life explains away a lot of his idiosyncrasies that it makes him a really great character. He's not oblivious, but at the same time he's not great at social norms. He's well-spoken without feeling like he's superior to everyone, which is probably what I was afraid he would end up being.

And my love for Makota is pretty obvious, but really she's a great addition because she's the one that seems to be pressured the most by all the people around her, most of the time rather unfairly. And it's tough to watch early on when the Phantom Thieves chew her ass out and attack her before she joins them. I like her matter-of-factly approach to characterization while at the same time not being afraid to reveal her inner weaknesses, and it makes her more interesting than Ann to this point. Ann's development seems to have stunted since Kamoshida and I'm waiting for it to kick up again either via more palaces or confidant discussions, and I expect Makoto's to stall a little bit post-Kaneshiro palace, but I think Makoto's started from a much more interesting place.
