I'd rather take a few lumps on the butt than lose video game priveleges, that's for sure.

Fun fact: my grandpa was a drunk. He also never spanked because he thought it was stupid, and he literally said to a guy who spanked his kid on front of him "you're a real tough guy, beating up a five year old. Hit that kid again and see what happens." He was also a war vet who raised six kids as a fruit peddler, and all of his kids respect him without a single use of violence. Hell, most of them worked on the truck.

So yeah, if a drunk "greatest generation" type can figure out how to raise six kids to be functional adults who all had families and jobs, there's no excuse for any modern parent to hit unless you are a bad parent.
