Joe Rogan did make a good point on his podcast about how the movie Blade which came out in 1998 starring Wesley Snipes as a superhero didn't get any of this attention. It's like, back then people could just enjoy a movie for being a movie. Now it's all about the identity politics. Black Panther was from top to bottom a movie made by African-Americans that had a big focus on African culture, set in a fictional African country and also had identity politics as a major plot point. Nobody would have made this movie 10 years ago. Blade wasn't going for the same thing at all. There are plenty of movies still being released that people watch because it's just a movie. Look at The Rock. He's a minority who is leading a shitload of action movies.
