I hated the few scripted kills. There's a point where instead of blocking off a hallway, they make it so if you attempt to use a certain path the alien pops out of nowhere to instant kill you. There's no way to know that before it happens and there's often no way the alien could actually get there from the last point you saw it.

Are you sure about this?

There are certain areas where the alien is scripted to be out of the ducts patrolling, but no scripted kills that I remember. The closest thing is if you pass under a vent that the alien is hiding in, but there is always drool dripping from it. I agree that the alien seems to get to those points rather quickly, but those are still random and are avoidable if you just don't pass underneath.
