Exactly, people always tell stories in ways relevant to their own societies. European art for example frequently depicts characters such as those from the bible with their own features

Likewise Achilles probably wouldn't have looked like Brad Pitt either


Actually Brad Pitt would be a perfect description of Achilles. As for much of Christian art literally using Latin depictions of characters youre correct on that and it has always bothered me.

Even some of the revisions to make for example Satan be the ultimate bad guy or Hades. When in fact Satan in the orginal Jewish teachings is Gods appointed prosecutor who is tasked by God to question everything and everyone. Thats the task of Satan and purpose of Satan that God wants.
