People don't seem to realize this, but writing manga is a job. If your manga ends, you lose your job. Most mangaka are opposed to this, so they try to keep the series going as long as possible.

And before you say "Oda's so rich he'd never have to work lololol," a lot people, especially hardworking people, actually like having a job, so retiring young isn't a good option.

Yeah, but with the acclaim he has he could end OP literally whenever to do another manga. Anything he does next is likely to have lots of initial followers. I mean hes working on the best selling manga in the world right now so keeping it going forever is good for him and Jump, but moreso for Jump because losing OP would be a colossal blow to them
