then save it. waste of money if you're going to go alone and stay in normal hotels

going alone should only be done if you stay in weird places and meet strangers

have a friend/loved one that will go with? sure, take a trip

I mean, there are places I have family to stay with and stuff. I'm first generation over here. When I went to England 10+ years ago, I didn't pay for accommodations, but that's the only foreign country I have relatives I actually know (not just names written in a family tree). That leg of the journey would basically amount to offering to chip in for petrol and food.

I wouldn't want to go everywhere with anybody else though, as I'm very impulsive and would end up just taking random journeys to things the morning of. I enjoy talking to strangers and stuff too, but the whole "backpacker" approach isn't for me because I hate the idea of sharing my living space with people I'm not related to in some way (that probably stands as the most German-sounding thing I've ever said :P ) or living too below my means. I wouldn't need fancy hotels and Michelin star restaurants, but hostels are 100% out.

The part of me that's saying "go now" is partly due to the UK leaving the EU and then I'd need a visa, and while $10k is a nice lump sum of money, I stand to inherit 100% of my parents' assets, which includes a house that's currently worth around $1M (one a few doors down that's half its size went for $1.2M, and the market only goes up here - all that changes is the speed).

My biggest fear is just needing it for something important or spending a large portion, coming home, and wishing I'd kept it.
