fair point and i probably shouldn't be talking like i'm a box office expert (because i'm not), but i do think having several poorly received movies in a row takes away some of the goodwill towards a franchise. most of the transformers movies were poorly received but they still did well at the box office UNTIL the last knight, which did badly. yes, we're still getting bumblebee but 1) that's going to be directed by travis knight, so paramount did probably go "ok this michael bay thing isn't really working anymore," and 2) i do believe that's going to be the last movie in this particular continuity. then the franchise probably gets rebooted to become part of the transformers/g.i. joe/micronauts/etc. cinematic universe.

of course solo not being too well received by the audience isn't the ONLY reason it's doing poorly at the box office. jeff zero posted a pretty good list of reasons (via leonhart) in ulti's topic.
