Eventually you just get to point where everything hurts on an emotional level and you become somewhat numb. Then suicidal thoughts go from being unnerving to peaceful and comforting. Just the thought of suicide feels good when you're depressed. Then the person decides to take the plunge and do it.

Eh, this is pretty close. At some point it just doesn't matter any more, and you're tired.

When it comes to having a family, suicidal people often times do it because they feel so unhappy and worthless that they honestly believe their family, even the children, would be better off without them. That they're a hindrance due to some trivial or arbitrary failure.

This is obviously irrational, but mental illness is not exactly rational.

And this too. You can know, rationally that it (probably) isn't true, but that doesn't change how you feel. It's almost an intrinsic knowledge that you're fucked up and they'd be better off without you in the long run.
