I don't even count Starfield or ES6. Nothing was shown, and we already knew they'd be coming. In fact, I'd almost they'd not have mentioned ES6, cause the way they did it just shows how little progress they've made on it.

They probably put that out there because a lot of people recently have been floating the idea that they might not want to make an Elder Scrolls 6 at all, because it would be hard to top the hype that Skyrim created, and because they can make more money farming out microtransactions in ESO than they can producing single-player games.

After all, it's easier to just mock up maps and landscapes in an existing engine, then slap minimalistic questlines and fetch quests in to justify the purchase price than it is to build an entire game and setting from scratch.

That's also part of why some people were annoyed when the Summerset expansion came out, because they took that to mean that, even if ES6 became a thing, Summerset coming out now meant it probably wouldn't be set there (and conversely, some people think the new focus on Summerset might mean that ES6 absolutely IS going to be set there, just thousands of years later, probably hundreds of years post-Skyrim.

But yeah, they might have wanted to put the brakes on speculation along those lines by at least officially saying "Yes, it's coming eventually, once we get other stuff out of the way."
