Of course I f***ing know. I just don't like downloading or streaming music. I like buying CDs and ripping them myself.

I mean, you seem to be somewhat of an audiophile, and CD's are objectively lower-quality than many downloaded tracks. I would have thought you'd have made the switch as soon as it became possible to buy high-quality single tracks instead of entire albums of compressed stuff.

And I do care about all of that other s*** and I've been able to deal with the horrible sound and enjoy several modern albums. But with every f***ing album in the last 20+ years having the top waveform in this image, I don't want to go out of my way to find modern music. Old music isn't overly compressed s*** like this. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/69/RHCP_Snow_Hey_Oh_waveform.png

As somebody who mostly listens to classical music, I actually find having less dynamic range makes modern stuff easier to listen to. Classical music doesn't record well simply because of the dynamic contrast, which means I have to turn up the volume to be able to hear the quiet parts and turn down the volume to not suffer hearing damage in the loud parts. Not having to do that is certainly convenient.
